Ambareesh Murty promoted as eBay India’s country manager

eBay India, the online marketplace of India, has named Ambareesh Murty its new country manager. He was earlier director, marketing and operations, at eBay India. Murty has held various senior executive positions during his tenure at the company, which he joined in December 2005.

Rajan Mehra, who has held the position of country manager at the company since September 2005, will work out the transition period of a few months and then move to pursuing his entrepreneurial interests in the venture capital industry. Mehra is credited with conceptualising and building the eBay India Motors Marketplace.

Murty, an IIM Calcutta alumnus, who holds a BE in civil engineering from the Delhi College of Engineering, has worked as a packaged goods marketer with Cadbury Schweppes for five years, during which time he worked on various brand initiatives. He has worked with ICICI Prudential as vice-president, marketing and customer service. He has also set up his own financial training and advisory firm in Bangalore.
