Karl Gomes, national creative director, digital, Rediffusion Y&R has called it quits at the agency. He had joined the agency in November 2008.
He was responsible for offering and carrying out digital media campaigns at the agency. Gomes had moved to Rediffusion Y&R after spending more than a year at Arc Worldwide, the integrated marketing arm of Leo Burnett, in the capacity of executive creative director, digital.
Speaking to afaqs!, Gomes says, "As of now, I am taking a brief break from work and in the days to come, I will decide what to do next." He confirms that he will stay in the digital media space.
Gomes has more than 13 years of experience in the industry, out of which he has spent nearly 10 years in the digital arena. Having studied commerce at Mumbai's Mithibai College, Gomes had undertaken freelance work for a few design houses and advertising agencies while still in college. He started his career in 1996.
His big break came in 2004, when he was appointed design head at Digital Branding Solutions, a Mudra Group venture. He later helped Mudra to start Tribal DDB India, the digital arm of Mudra DDB, and moved up to become national creative director at the agency. His next assignment was at Arc Worldwide, which he joined in 2007. Here, his campaign on Luxor Highlighters won him a bronze Cyber Lion at Cannes in 2008.
While working for Tribal DDB, Gomes' work related to a banner ad campaign for TimesJobs.com won him several awards, including a gold and a bronze at the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) Awards at Goafest 2006 and a silver at the Asia Pacific Adfest 2006 in Thailand. A website, created for LIC, and an online campaign for MTV India on World AIDS Day won him several Webby awards.
In 2008, he won a bronze Cyber Lion at Cannes. He was also a jury member at the Cannes International Advertising Awards that year. Also, he served as a jury member for the Cyber Lotus at Adfest 2009.
