Ad network NetworkPlay is the exclusive seller of LinkedIn's ad inventory in India since April 2009

afaqs! has learnt from reliable sources in the industry that the US based business networking site Linkedin.com has decided to discontinue its association with NetworkPlay, which is the exclusive seller of LinkedIn's ad inventory in India since April 2009. The sources further indicate that the business networking site may handle the ad sales function on its own. However, it is still not clear, whether this transition will happen soon or after this financial quarter.

afaqs! has also learnt that LinkedIn has appointed Dhiman Mukherji at a senior level position in ad sales; also, Sunny Saurabh has been appointed as head, advertising solutions. Earlier, Mukherji was head, ad sales, AOL.in, while Saurabh was working with UTV New Media as assistant vice-president, web entertainment.

As per their LinkedIn profiles, Mukherji has about 13 years of work experience, during which he has worked with companies such as Google and Rediff.com in the digital space. Saurabh has more than six years of experience and has earlier worked with MySpace as product manager.

The 'Careers' section of the Linkedin.com site also reveals that the networking site has recently posted job openings for various ad sales positions such as ad sales managers and account manager, ad sales for its Mumbai office.

The exact reasons for the shift of the LinkedIn ad sales business from NetworkPlay could not be ascertained till the time of filing this story. The development seems to be directly linked with the establishment of LinkedIn's office in India. The business networking site set up its India office and hired Krishnan in November 2009.

When contacted Rammohan Sundaram, founder, chief executive officer and managing director, NetworkPlay declined to comment on the development. Hari V Krishnan, country manager, Linkedin.com, said, "We continue to stay with NetworkPlay and our current focus is to build the hiring solutions business in India." Krishnan declined to comment on Mukherji's appointment.

For the record, Linkedin.com has about 6 million members in India.
