Data from Twitter indicates that the social media platform had turned into an alternate battlefield during the semi-final match.
March 26 saw cricket enthusiasts tune in to one of the most anticipated matches of the World Cup - the semi-final between host country Australia and the defending champions, India. Though the latter lost, breaking over a billion hearts, the match generated a lot of chatter on Twitter.

It is important to note that, apart from the Sydney ground, where the match was being played, the other battleground for India (@BCCI) and Australia (@CAComms), fighting for the coveted cup, was Twitter, replete with hashtags, tweets and retweets from people across the country.

Further, the most mentioned players on the platform were MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith, Aaron Finch and Mitchell Johnson.
