YourStory raises Series A funding

The company will use the funds to launch a tech portal which will publish original stories in various regional languages.

YourStory, a digital publication focussed on the startup ecosystem, has raised undisclosed Series A funding, led by Kalaari Capital, with participation from Qualcomm Ventures, TV Mohandas Pai and Ratan Tata. This is the first investment into the company.

Announcing the same in a blog post, the founder and chief editor of YourStory, Shradha Sharma states, "I am fortunate and grateful that I found them. It is with the greatest joy that I share the news that Ratan Tata, Vani Kola (Kalaari Capital), Karthee Madasamy (Qualcomm Ventures) and TV Mohandas Pai have invested in YourStory."

The company will use the funds to launch a mobile-first tech portal which will publish original stories in various regional languages, starting with Hindi, Telugu, Bangla, Kannada, Tamil and Marathi. The portal will go live in October this year. The platform will allow users to narrate their stories through text, voice or video.

Started in October 2008 by Sharma, YourStory currently operates a number of properties including conferences for entrepreneurs like TechSparks, MobiSparks, E-Sparks, WebSparks, EduStars, Cloud Conclave, Startup Jobs Fair, Sociopreneurship and YS pages, among others.
