Spuul signs 70 movie deal with Shemaroo

Spuul now has a wider range of movies for its viewers including Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, The Dirty Picture and Sarfarosh.

Spuul, the online streaming service platform, has signed a movie catalogue deal with Shemaroo Entertainment. The two companies have been working closely together to encourage legitimate consumption of Indian cinema on digital media. Leveraging on their existing relationship, the companies have come together to create a larger library on the digital platform in order to offer an enhanced viewing experience online.

Commenting on the deal and the demographics, Rajiv Vaidya, chief executive officer, Spuul, says, "Currently, we have around 70 movies from Shemaroo Entertainment. Our demographic is predominantly 18-35 AB, and within that broad range, it varies between guys who watch only Game of Thrones, and those who watch only Bhojpuri films. It is a broad section and we, therefore, need to get recent and good movies online for the Indian content watching public here, as well as regional movies."

According to Vaidya, Spuul is currently not catering to the top-end viewers who watch only English, or who prefer only English content. "However, such people watch Hindi movies, too. For instance, someone who is watching Jungle Book or Mission Impossible, is also watching Fan," he says.

In addition to a large selection of free movies, Spuul, which boasts an extensive collection of Bollywood movies, ranging from evergreen classics to the latest blockbusters, also offers movies with the Premium subscription option in monthly, annual and multiple smaller packages, along with pay-per-view movies.

Spuul now offers its viewers a wider catalogue that includes contemporary hits from Shemaroo like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, The Dirty Picture, Sarfarosh, and Black, as well as evergreen classics such as Kaalia, Namak Halaal, Shiva, Majboor, Amar Akbar Anthony, Don, and Anamika.

Jai Maroo, director, Shemaroo Entertainment, says in a press release, "With an ever-growing number of consumers on digital platform, we are sure that our association with Spuul will further boost the customer base. We have already been working with Spuul to make our content available through its platform and have seen it grow over the past couple of years. We look forward to use this opportunity to grow further.
