Government plans to monitor television content

I&B Minister S Jaipal Reddy says that the government is planning to appoint an independent regulatory body, which will monitor television content

The Union government is planning to form a regulatory structure to monitor television content. S Jaipal Reddy, Union I&B minister, expressed his concern about some television channels, and especially the music channels, airing objectionable content which becomes matter of discomfort for family viewing.

He said that the I&B Ministry is contemplating to appoint an independent regulatory body, which will be free from any political interference and will have total independence.

He further added, “TV in India continues to enjoy popularity at par or even more than films. The country is now flooded with a number of TV channels offering various kinds of content and in the near future, the number of channels would only grow. But, what is actually important is not the medium, but the content, which is king,” he said.
