Dainik Jagran to add another edition in Bihar

With the Muzaffarpur edition, Dainik Jagran will reach out to entire Bihar

Dainik Jagran is all set to launch another edition in Bihar by March-end. The Muzaffarpur edition is significant for the group as the publication will now have a presence in the entire state as it will reach out the readers in North Bihar.

At present, Dainik Jagran has two editions from Patna and Bhagalpur.

The Patna edition with 13 sub-editions caters to the entire central and west Bihar which is the pan-Gangetic plains.

The Bhagalpur edition reaches out to north-east districts such as Purnea, Supaul, Ara, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Khagaria apart from the neighbouring areas of north Bengal such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Coochbihar, North Dinajpur, Murshidabad and Sikkim. This edition also caters to parts from Jharkhand and has sub editions from districts such as Deogarh, Sahibganj and Dumka.

The Muzaffarpur edition will start with initial print run of 60,000 and cater to the districts such as Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi and Seohar.

Adding another edition in Bihar is also significant especially after the Hindi daily experienced growth in this market. Sunil Gupta, director Dainik Jagran, says, “In spite of the price of newspapers being the highest in Bihar among all Indian states, we are growing at a rate of 22.5 per cent in this market. (As per ABC Jan-June 2004 results). As per the ABC website, the net paid circulation of Dainik Jagran's Patna and Bhagalpur edition during this period was 1,68,322 copies.

Gupta explains the reason behind this growth. He says, “Besides effective editorial changes, we have also introduced innovative columns like “Subha Hone Tak, Dard Yahan bhi hai, Suraksha kawach’ where existing social problems are being discussed with an unbiased approach has also helped a great deal.”

The publication has also launched several activities aimed towards touching the lives of common people in a different way. Dainik Jagran has formed an inter-functional team to identify the social issues involving water, electricity, community health, education, solid wastes materials, administration etc and this team organises various interactive programmes with civic authorities and public utility departments to find out the remedy on the spot.”

Gupta says, “Such activities not only help us in establishing a better understanding with the reader and the society, but also fulfill our corporate social responsibility towards the society.”
