Trehan is likely to assume office in the third week of June
Sanjay Trehan, chief of Internet division of the Hindustan Times, is on his way to Indiatimes, the flagship brand of Times Internet. Trehan at Indiatimes will be spearheading the company's broadband and multimedia e-content initiative. He will be directly reporting to Mahendra Swaroop, CEO, Indiatimes.
Though Trehan was not available for comments, sources said he was likely to take charge of his new responsibilities in the third week of June.
Trehan leaves hindustantimes.com after a four-year stint. He has been instrumental in the turnaround of the Internet division. In an earlier interview, Trehan had told agencyfaqs! that when he had joined hindustantimes.com in 2001, the business was losing Rs 6 crore per annum, and today, the division is profitable. “We are very much in the black,” he had said.
Trehan's affair with the new media dates back to 2000, when he and his team launched e-tailing portal, jaldi.com. In 2001, Trehan quit Jaldi as COO and joined razorfinish.com, a reverse auction site for travel, as vice-president.
At Razorfinish, Trehan looked after marketing communications, content development and strategic alliances.
However, advertising remains Trehan's first love. He began his career with Lowe (erstwhile Lintas) after acquiring a Masters degree in history from St. Stephen's College. Thereafter, Trehan worked at various agencies, including Saatchi & Saatchi as creative director, until he decided to launch jaldi.com. © 2005 agencyfaqs!
