MTV Networks has appointed Anuj Poddar director, strategy, for MTV Networks Asia. As the head of strategy and business development for South Asia, Poddar’s focus will be on developing the business across the Indian subcontinent.

Announcing his appointment, Charles Chau, executive vice-president, Asia Pacific, corporate strategy and business development, MTV Networks, said, “I am confident that the company will benefit from Poddar’s deep knowledge and broad network in the Indian media market space. MTV Networks is poised at a point of exponential growth in Asia and he will play a major part in channelling that growth effectively in key areas.”

Poddar is moving in from KPMG, where he was leading the advisory practice of the media and entertainment sector for the last two years.

He was recently involved in publishing the CII-KPMG report for the Indian entertainment industry, called ‘Focus 2010: Dreams to Reality’.

Poddar has also worked for Arthur Andersen for around eight years.

Poddar said, “I’m really excited about taking on what promises to be an extremely challenging role in one of the dynamic media companies of the world.”

As a member of the MTV Networks International strategy group, Poddar and the global team will strive to increase MTV Networks’ business profitability in markets outside the US. He will work with the local executive team across the existing brands (MTV, Nickelodeon and Vh1) and also help drive the growth of the MTV Networks franchise in the region.
