<font color="#CC3300"><b><font color="#FF0000">IRS 2005 Round 2:</font></b></font> Six out of top ten magazines have shown a decline in readership

‘Saras Salil’ retains it numero uno position among magazines and Tamil magazine ‘Kumudam’ registers the maximum growth of 26 per cent

As per IRS 2005, Round 2, ‘Saras Salil’ has topped the magazines list with a readership of 73.66 lakhs.

Another fortnightly magazine, ‘Vanitha’ (Malayalam), is at number two place with a readership of 39.95 lakhs. However, the readership figures of ‘Vanitha’ have declined by 2.72 lakhs from the previous round.

Even ‘India Today’ has shown a decline in readership, though it has moved up one place to number three position with a readership of 38.99 lakhs.

The Tamil weekly, ‘Kumudam’, which was in the ninth position in R-1, has made a huge jump to fourth place. ‘Kumudam’, with a readership of 34.34 lakhs, has registered a growth of 26 per cent.

‘Grihashobha’ has also moved up by one position to fifth place. The Hindi monthly has a readership of 33.7 lakhs.

‘India Today’ (Hindi) and ‘Malayala Manorama’ (a Malayalam weekly) have suffered setbacks. ‘India Today’ (Hindi), which was in the fifth position in R-1, has dropped down to sixth place in R-2 with a readership of 32.83 lakhs.

Similarly, ‘Malayala Manorama’ has slipped to seventh position now from third place in R-1. Its readership has declined by 27 per cent from the previous round; the Malayalam weekly has a readership of 32.07 lakhs.

The eighth and ninth positions go to ‘Balarama’ (a Malayalam weekly), with a readership of 30.65 lakhs, and ‘Pratiyogita Darpan’ (a Hindi monthly), with a readership of 26.53 lakhs.

The English monthly, ‘Reader’s Digest’, continues to be in the tenth position with a readership of 26.37 lakhs, registering a growth of 11 per cent.
