Channel [V] set to rock Mumbai at the Mentos Big [V] Concert

The concert will be held on January 15 in Mumbai; 20 singing sensations, including Shaggy, Shaan, Band of Boys and Babul Supriyo, are expected to perform at the event

Channel [V] executives are touting it as ‘the mother of all music concerts’. The Mentos Big [V] Concert, which will be held on January 15 at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai, has a unique offering: non-stop performances from 20 Indian and international singing sensations, from 10 am to 10 pm.

Amar Deb, head honcho, Channel [V], says, “With this concert, we’re setting the mood for music in 2006. To popularise the concert, we are banking on the STAR Network, which will run the concert promos on all its channels.”

The concert will be aired on the channel in the form of an eight-episode mini-series. Some of the artists who will perform at the concert are Shaan, Shaggy, Jal, Band of Boys, Euphoria., Malkit Singh, Himesh Reshammiya, Kailash Kher, Babul Supriyo, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Aasma. These artists were chosen by music fans themselves through an opinion poll, ‘Meet and Greet’, conducted on Channel [V]’s official website, www.vindia.com.

Namita Gupta, brand manager, Mentos, speaks on the association of the brand with the concert: “The core TG for Mentos is the youth. We chose to be the title sponsor for this concert because Channel [V] as a media vehicle has a tremendous association with the youth. As a media window, this event has two distinct advantages: high noise on ground and two months’ continuity on air.”

For invites to the concert, SMS ‘bigv’ to 7827 or log on to Channel [V]’s website. The channel has also tied up with Barista and GO 92.5 FM to distribute passes through contests. College students can flash their ID cards from 8 am to 10 am on the day of the event and gain entry.

In addition to Mentos, Barista and GO 92.5 FM, Channel [V] has partnered with Wizcraft, Kohinoor Televideo, Monginis and Pepsi for the event. Channel [V] has also launched a press campaign and put up hoardings in and around colleges. Various contests are being held at the college level to enable music fans to win passes to the event.
