UTV has decided to give a boost to its animation business with an investment of Rs 25 crore. The company plans to refurbish its animation studio in Andheri, Mumbai increasing its capacity to 225 workstations and adding new software.
The company, which is into animation outsourcing, has recently got a huge amount of business from clients across North America and Europe. UTV already has an impressive clientele, which includes names such as Disney, Fox, Teletoon and Cine group.
Ronnie Screwvala, CEO, UTV, says, “This new capacity will help us to complete the current assignments and also expand our own horizon.”
UTV plans to increase its workforce strength from 150 to 300 by the end of this quarter. Besides, it is planning to launch two full length animation movies, which will cater to the entire South Asian market. Screwvala feels these two projects will help the company increase its influence in the market.
Screwvala adds, “Our company is not only a leader in producing local content but also into animation with services being outsourced and production channels like Hungama TV. We are also into movie productions and air-time sales.”
On the current trend of outsourcing in animation, Screwvala asserts, “The outsourcing industry has a growing potential and UTV is doing great on this front. Our aim is not only to outsource our animation services but also to produce original content in the coming years, though nothing has been finalised in this regard.”
