Avirook Sen, resident editor, ‘HT’, to join ‘Mid-Day’ as group editor

Sen will join ‘Mid-Day’ in May 2006

Avirook Sen, resident editor, ‘Hindustan Times’, Mumbai, has put in his papers. Sen, who is currently serving his notice, will replace Akar Patel as group editor at ‘Mid-Day’.

At the moment, Tariq Ansari, managing director, ‘Mid-Day’, is handling the responsibility of the group as editor. Sen will continue to be based in Mumbai.

While ‘Mid-Day’ refuses to comment on Sen’s appointment, ‘HT’, Mumbai, maintains that the matter has not been finalised as yet.

After working with ‘Sunday’ magazine for five years, Sen joined ‘India Today’ magazine, where he worked for five years as principal correspondent, based in Kolkata.

Sen began his innings at ‘HT’, when he joined hindustantimes.com to edit their website. As a reporter, he covered politics and sports. In 2005, he was given the responsibility of being resident editor of ‘HT’, Mumbai.

It may be noted that Sen is quitting ‘HT’, Mumbai, within a year of the paper’s launch in July 2005. The newspaper did manage to make a mark in the Mumbai market in the month of its launch. It also managed to create a stir in the Mumbai print market despite ‘DNA’ being launched the very next month in the same market.
