Channel 7 rechristened IBN 7 on Independence Day

The TV18 Network wants to integrate the synergies between its English and Hindi news channels

Ever since Jagran Television and the TV18 Group joined hands, with Global Broadcast News (GBN) announcing its integration with Channel 7, the re-branding of Channel 7 was almost inevitable. And it happened finally on India’s Independence Day: Channel 7 is now IBN 7, complete with a new look, logo and programming.

The re-branding will facilitate the TV18 Network in creating more synergy between its English news channel, CNN-IBN, and its Hindi channel, the new IBN 7.

Eight months ago, Global Broadcast News (GBN) launched CNN-IBN under the positioning statement, ‘Whatever It Takes’. Now, this spirit extends to IBN 7, which will follow the mantra, ‘Khabar, Har Keemat Par’.

The on-air look, including the channel ID, programme stings and on-air graphics, give the channel a contemporary look and feel. The logo of IBN 7 in red, black and white reflects the brand identity and corporate philosophy of GBN, which is in sync with CNN-IBN.

Highlighting the reason for the re-branding, Rajdeep Sardesai, editor-in-chief, CNN-IBN and IBN 7, says, “This has been done for the benefit of our Hindi news viewers. With the introduction of IBN 7, GBN attempts to expand its reach in India. We are confident that CNN-IBN and IBN 7 together will bring to discerning viewers a holistic approach to news delivery.”

Ashutosh, managing editor, IBN 7, adds, “IBN 7 will present a multi-genre news programming package for Hindi news viewers. The focus will be on building a channel that broadcasts news as it happens, when it happens, wherever it happens.”

When quizzed about the new programming, channel officials offered no comment, saying that the strategy would be revealed in due course and would be sequentially spread over a period of time. “Our end product will be very different from what it used to be,” says a senior marketing official at IBN-7.
