The buzz that the India Today Group plans to turn its afternoon tabloid, ‘Today’, into a morninger has been around for some months. But now, it seems that the group is taking concrete steps towards this.

In the process, the group has brought in Sourish Bhattacharya as executive editor.

Bhattacharya, an old ‘Hindustan Times’ hand, has around 20 years of experience in print journalism. At ‘Today’, he will report to Kingshuk Mukherjee, editor, ‘Today’. Between 1999 and 2004, Bhattacharya was the editor of the city supplement of ‘Hindustan Times’, ‘HT City’.

For the last two years, Bhattacharyya had taken a sabbatical from journalism while he pursued his interest in writing books on cuisines. He has authored a book dedicated to Japanese cuisine, which is called ‘Sakura’s Japanese Kitchen: The Culture and Cuisine of Japan’.

Bhattacharyya started his career with ‘The Telegraph’, Kolkata, in 1985. Having spent two years with ‘The Telegraph’, he moved on to work with ‘The Indian Express’ in 1987. Soon after, he shifted to the US to pursue a Master’s degree in journalism from Ohio University.
