Ajay Kumar, senior V-P and head, Zee South, quits

Ajay Kumar, head of South initiatives for Zee, has quit. He spent about two years at Zee and will return to the regional media space soon

Ajay Kumar, senior vice-president and head of Zee Network’s South initiatives, has quit. March 15 was his last working day at the organization. His stint at Zee spanned two years.

At Zee, Kumar was instrumental in contributing original and innovative ideation in programming and spearheading the company’s foray into the South with the launch of Zee Telugu and Zee Kannada.

When Kumar first joined Zee, it was as business head of the company’s Southern channels. Towards the end of 2006, he was re-designated as head of Zee’s South ventures, which entailed overseeing the distribution business for all the 32 Zee and Turner channels in the Southern states.

Prior to Zee, Kumar worked with ETV Network for seven years, from June 1995 to November 1998, with a second stint from October 2001 to January 2005. There, he initially served in the capacity of business promotion head, and later went on to head the sales, marketing and research functions of the network’s 11 channels as general manager, sales, research and marketing.

Kumar has more than 13 years of academic experience with the Department of Communication and Journalism at Osmania University. He is a keen student of communication, media and advertising, and is on the advisory council of MICA, Ahmedabad. He is also a member of the technical committee of the Joint Industry Body, which comprises ISA, IBF and AAAI.
