Kasturi Media to roll out Kannada channel; ropes in Zee’s Ajay Kumar

Kasturi Media is claiming its offering is truly from the soil, and that it is the Kannadigas’ own channel

The regional entertainment space is heating up with various players showing keen interest in it, from general entertainment channels to news channels. Another regional venture, Kasturi Media, is ready to roll out its Kannada general entertainment channel this July.

Kasturi Media has appointed the erstwhile head of Zee South initiatives, Ajay Kumar, as principal consultant for its television venture. He will oversee the company’s marketing, analytics and sales functions. Kasturi Media is promoted by Anita Kumaraswamy, who is the managing director.

In his role, Kumar will consult Kumaraswamy and the core team at Kasturi Media. The channel, Kasturi, will be positioned as a channel which is truly Kannadiga in nature. The company claims that though there are existing players in the region, such as Zee, Sun and Asianet, Kasturi will be Karnataka’s own channel.

The channel will feature news as well as entertainment, and is being touted as an infotainment channel backed by state of the art infrastructure and technology.

Kumar will have a consulting team comprising of representatives from sales, analytics, legal and programming streams, and will play a key role in marketing the channel. He was earlier the senior vice-president and head of Zee Network’s South initiatives for two years. In the past, he has done a seven year stint at ETV Network.
