Sun TV to launch kids’ channel; brands it Chutti TV

The channel will go live from Sunday, 29 April

Sun TV Network is all set to roll out a Tamil channel meant for kids, starting Sunday, 29 April. The 24-hour channel has been christened Chutti TV, and it aims to replicate the magic of a Sunday on all days of the week for children.

The channel will be based on the premise of fun, which is reflected in its logo, that of a ‘Chutti’ sun, as well as in its tagline, ‘Idhu yenga area’ (it's our area).

Executives at Sun TV Network claim that Chutti TV is the only Tamil kids channel designed around children’s lives, featuring programmes on their lives, loves, hopes and their sense of fun. The primary TG for the channel is 2-14 year olds. The channel is also counting on attracting family audiences.

The programming mix includes action cartoons such as ‘The Adventures of Jackie Chan’ targeted at 6-16 year olds, the action comedy ‘Stunt Dawgs’, and titles such as ‘Men in Black’ and ‘Godzilla’.

The channel’s international shows will be adapted in Tamil and nuanced with a local flavour rather than the ‘dub and run’ strategy followed by some kids’ channels.

Chutti TV will also feature ‘Dora the Explorer’, the translated and adapted interactive pre-school learning series for the younger kids segment from 2-8 years. Furthermore, there will be a South Indian talent hunt show, ‘Kids Khiladees’, a comedy show, ‘Chutti Looti’, a rock and roll ride, ‘Galata Katcheri’, a chat show hosted by kids called ‘Chutti Chat’, an on-the-spot challenge show, ‘Chutti Challenge’, a phone-in show, ‘Hello Chutti!’, a career show, ‘Chutti Topper’, and a parent-child debate, ‘Chutti Mandram’.
