Over 16 years in the industry, Choudhry has worked on many brands in a variety of categories
Hemant Choudhry has joined Starcom Delhi as general manager. He moves from Maxus Delhi, where he was business director on the Hero Honda account.
Confirming the development to agencyfaqs!, Tarun Nigam, executive director, India North, Starcom, says, “As our business goals escalate and the media industry gets more complex, we wanted someone like Choudhry, who has both the experience and the spark to lead an upbeat young team.”
Starcom’s Delhi branch has quite a few new faces in the team after Anita Nayyar moved to MPG.
Choudhry says the Delhi and North Indian markets have grown at an accelerated pace over the past few years, and have shown a surge in consumerism and adoption of new trends.
Choudhry has spent 16 years in the industry and has worked on many brands in various categories, from home appliances to automobiles and mobile phones to cigarettes.
Choudhry started his career in the media division of Grey Worldwide Kolkata (then Trikaya Grey) in 1990, and worked there for two years before moving to another Kolkata based agency, Response. In 1994, he got his big break at JWT Kolkata (then HTA) as media planner and later as senior media planner. Having spent three years at JWT, he moved to Rediff’s media arm, The Media Edge (TME), in 1997 as head of planning. He not only switched agencies, he moved to a new market, Delhi at that stage. Between 2003 and 2005, after quitting TME, Choudhry was a media consultant.
In May 2005, he took over as business director, Carat Media Services, Delhi. He worked at Carat till November 2006, after which Maxus happened.
He was instrumental in launching the Honda Accord and Maruti Wagon R in India.
