Prem Kamath, associate vice-president, Leo Burnett, will be joining Star India as vice-president, marketing. Kamath’s appointment is a result of the previous vice-president, Star India, Satya Raghavan, quitting to join MSN India as head of consumer marketing. Kamath will begin his new job on the 14th of this month.

The development was confirmed to agencyfaqs! by Harsh Rohatgi, general manager, marketing and content, Star India. Kamath’s mandate at Star will be to handle marketing and communication across the company’s channels, which include Star Plus, Star Gold, Star Utsav, Star One, Star Movies and Star World. He will also be responsible for developing content for channels, managing existing properties and developing new ones.

Rohatgi says, “Prem (Kamath) is a vibrant young professional and has a proven track record in the field of advertising and communications. His wide ranging knowledge and experience will be useful for Star India in providing focus and strategy driven marketing across all its channels.”

Kamath is an MBA from Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad (MICA). He passed out from MICA in 1998 and joined Bates David Enterprise (then Enterprise Nexus) in Mumbai. Then, after a year, he moved to Leo Burnett. His stint at Leo Burnett lasted for about eight years. During this span, he worked on prominent brands such as Coca-Cola, Thums Up, Maaza, Bajaj Auto, Kellogg’s and Johnny Walker.

Amongst his challenging projects, Kamath remembers Reliance Communications. He was associated with the business for the past one year and was instrumental in setting up the entire brand communications team to carry out the brand’s communication functions.
