UTV launches Spotboy under SAB’s Vikas Bahl

Spotboy is UTV’s second motion picture brand and the move is aimed at providing UTV with bandwidth and thinking flexibility

UTV Motion Pictures is all set to launch its second motion picture brand, Spotboy. The launch is a step forward in UTV’s expansion plans. It already has UTV Motion Pictures, which has produced popular movies such as ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’, ‘Metro’ and ‘The Namesake’.

Vikas Bahl, business head, SAB, will head Spotboy as executive vice-president. He has been with SAB for the past one and a half years.

Talking about the expansion plans, Ronnie Screwvala, CEO, UTV, says, “We are entering new markets, including international markets, with many projects under way. The launch of Spotboy is a result of that.” UTV entered the motion picture space four years ago.

Spotboy will look after existing projects as well as produce its own fresh content. This trend of launching a second brand is prevalent internationally. “It provides the company with bandwidth and thinking flexibility. It also helps to bring diverse projects within the same studio through different brands,” explains Screwvala.

Bahl has 11 years of experience, most of them in the advertising industry. He has worked with agencies such as Ogilvy and Contract, and also with Indya.com and Radio Mirchi as national marketing head. Screwvala says, “His fresh and innovative approach to business and his creative abilities will help take UTV Motion Pictures to new heights.”
