New Update

The channel will be a general news channel targeting all Maharashtrians at large

After the long haul, MCCS is finally ready to launch its Marathi news channel in a few days. The tentative date is learnt to be June 22. The channel, according to sources close to the development, will be named ‘STAR Maaja’, which is the Marathi expression for ‘My STAR’. Spokespersons at STAR declined to confirm or divulge any details on this.

The channel will be a general news channel targeted at all strata and all age groups. ‘STAR Maaza’ will be positioned as a channel that will empower Maharashtrians with its content and programming and will represent the aspirations of the new Maharashtra. It is believed to be high on production value and compelling news presentation.

If sources are to be believed, the news channel will be on the lines of its siblings STAR Ananda and STAR News, with special afternoon blocks for women viewers. STAR Maaja may also, in due course of time, become an infotainment channel. The group also plans to foray into the English news genre soon.

Recently MCCS roped in Mudra Communications to handle the advertising for its new brand. An advertising budget of Rs 6-8 crore has been set aside for this. The launch campaign will be implemented from the day of the launch. Television, print and outdoor mediums will be utilised for the same.

‘STAR Maaza’ will battle it out with Zee News’ ‘Chauvees Tas’ (24 Hours) that made its way in to the Marathi news channel space early this year. It is being positioned as being the fastest in terms of getting news and also the most credible.
