Manini Chatterjee joins ‘The Telegraph’ as editor, Delhi

The highly-regarded political journalist has worked with ‘The Telegraph’ for 10 years during her formative years

Manini Chatterjee will be joining ‘The Telegraph’, Delhi, as editor from August 1, 2007, replacing Bharat Bhushan.

“The paperwork is all complete and I’ll be taking over my new role with ‘The Telegraph’ from the beginning of August,” says Chatterjee when quizzed about her job shift. She replaces Bharat Bhushan who left ‘The Telegraph’ last month to join the India Today Group’s upcoming daily newspaper in partnership with ‘Daily Mail’.

Chatterjee is a veteran political journalist and worked with ‘The Telegraph’ for 10 years during her formative years. “Life has come full circle. ‘Telegraph’ is a brand with which I was associated for over 10 years and now I feel like I’m coming back to my roots,” she says excitedly.

Chatterjee comes back to ‘The Telegraph’ after a gap of 15 years. In between, she worked for brands like ‘Indian Express’, India Today Online and a leading publishing house. She defines her career, spanning more than 25 years, as a “chequered journey”. In her previous assignment, she was political editor with the Indian Express Group, where she was known for her coverage of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), as for her reportage on general as well as state elections.

“I learnt a lot from ‘The Telegraph’ and guess it’s time to return the favour,” says Chatterjee. As editor, she is determined to set up a talented bureau that lives up to the image of a “reporter’s newspaper”. Chatterjee has also written a book for Penguin titled ‘Do and Die: The Chittagong Uprising, 1930-34’.
