‘Mid-Day’, the Mumbai based tabloid, which has extended to other cities such as Bangalore and Delhi, is now planning go beyond the print and radio business. The group also owns the private FM radio brand, Radio One.

Mid-Day Multimedia is contemplating entry into television broadcasting and to further strengthen its position in the web space. Its intention was revealed by Shishir Joshi, who has joined the group recently as editorial director. Joshi has moved from the TV Today Group, where he was executive editor and chief of the Mumbai bureau. Joshi’s television experience will be valuable for the company in driving Mid-Day Multimedia to become a multi-city and multi-media product as the group enforces its vision to become a national media brand.

In an exclusive interview with agencyfaqs, Joshi says his move should not be considered as a shift from television to print. “‘Mid-Day’ is willing to get into any new space which is exciting,” he says.

When probed further on the new space that ‘Mid-Day’ considers exciting, Joshi says, “One cannot rule out any space. For ‘Mid-Day’, anything that is exciting is a viable business option. It can be digital or even television.”

However, Joshi rules out the possibility of a news channel. He adds that no concrete plan is in place, but a further consolidation or a new venture in the broadcast media is a possibility that cannot be ruled out.
