Amar Ujala gets on-board Alok Mathur as vice-president, national media solutions

Prior to joining Amar Ujala, Mathur was associated with Outlook Group for five years

Alok Mathur, the erstwhile vice-president, advertising, north at Outlook Group, has joined Amar Ujala. He has come on-board as vice-president, national media solutions.

Mathur has more than two decades of work experience, having started his career in 1986. Prior to joining Amar Ujala, he spent five years with Outlook Group -- he joined them in 2004 as general manager, advertising, north. He has also spent 18 long years with Bennett Coleman & Company Limited (BCCL), handling various roles and responsibilities.

Speaking to afaqs! on his move to Amar Ujala, Mathur shares, "It was the possibility of handling regional media and taking on a national role that attracted me to the organisation. Here, I will be in-charge of national advertising, covering metros and mini-metros. Another function, related to retail and part of national media solutions covering almost 18 centres, is being handled by another colleague."

In his long career, Mathur has worked across print, television and radio. He began his career with BCCL as chief manager, response, The Times of India. He handled four verticals -- auto, real estate, telecom and education. He moved within the organisation to oversee production and marketing of content on Doordarshan as part of Times Television.

He also had a brief stint with Radio Mirchi as chief manager, advertising sales, Delhi. Having worked with Times Music and Times Multimedia as well, he has expertise in ad sales and generating sponsorships.

In his new role, Mathur would report to Sunil Mutreja, president, marketing, Amar Ujala. Commenting on Mathur's appointment, Mutreja tells afaqs!, "Mathur has joined us to be a part of the media solution department and will be responsible for corporate ad sales. In a national role, he will look at Delhi, Mumbai, southern and eastern regions. Regional markets such as UP, Chandigarh and other offices of the publication have a separate head."

Mutreja informs that prior to Mathur's appointment, he himself was handling the role alongside his usual responsibilities, and was taking care of functions such as advertising and circulation. However, going forward, the organisation needed support and a dedicated person to handle the function.
