The Hindi daily plans to introduce editions of Compact across all its centres in UP
Amar Ujala's tabloid sized daily, Compact, will be launched from Gorakhpur and Bareilly early next month. While the Gorakhpur edition will be launched on April 2, the Bareilly edition will be rolled out either on April 9 or April 11.
These launches are a part of the Amar Ujala Group's larger plans of introducing Compact in all the existing 12 centres of its Hindi daily Amar Ujala in Uttar Pradesh. Both the editions will have 24 pages each, with 12 colour pages. The new launches will continue to bear the cover price of Re 1.
After these two editions, Compact will be launched in Moradabad, followed by Aligarh and finally Lucknow, which will be the last destination for the tabloid's plans for UP.
In Gorakhpur, the group plans to have an initial print run of 45,000 copies, whereas Bareilly will have a print run of 35,000 copies.
Sunil Mutreja, president, Amar Ujala, says, "Through Compact, we are looking at creating an entirely different segment of readers which does not overlap with the existing readership population. We are looking at expanding the market by introducing the newspaper in the daily lives of those who want to read the paper but cannot afford one. These are the people who will finally graduate to Amar Ujala in three to four years."
He informs that the group has identified localities that have zero or close to zero penetration of newspapers in the two cities and Amar Ujala will make efforts to reach out to those households.
Compact is targeted at people in the age group of 20-35 years who fall in the lower middle income group.
