The board of Media Research Users Council (MRUC) has appointed Joseph Eapen as the CEO of MRUC. Eapen is currently serving as CEO of television viewership measurement agency, aMap. He is scheduled to join MRUC by end of the month.

With this appointment, MRUC reiterates its intent to expand the scope of research to areas beyond print and outdoor, as well as to substantially scale the quality and quantity of research across media.

Eapen has 18 years of extensive experience in media research in India and abroad, including in print, television, radio, as well as consumer research.

Andrey Purushottam, chairman of MRUC, says in an official communiqué, "Eapen brings tonnes of relevant experience and will play a key role in transforming the MRUC into a vibrant organization, spearheading the cause of timely, credible and cost-effective research across all media."

On his new role, Eapen says, "I am not only excited about growing and strengthening the IRS, but also other areas of media research."

Primary on Eapen's agenda is to reinforce the IRS. He adds, however, "MRUC has the perception of being print-focused. We will be looking at enhancing research on other media, such as radio, outdoor and ambient, and not just concentrate on print."

Eapen started his career with Television Audience Measurement (TAM) in 1992. He managed the first TAM operation in the Gulf and spent close to 10 years there. His next stop was TGI, a network of single-source syndicated consumer surveys, in the Gulf. His overall research experience in the Gulf was 16 years.

In 2008, he came to India and joined aMap as director for research. Later, he went on to become the CEO.
