Star DEN issues notice to InCable Network

Signals to channels likely to be disconnected from April 22, 2011.

Indusind Media and Communications (InCable) network has been issued a notice by Star DEN for the non-signing of the subscription agreement.

According to Star DEN, a 50:50 joint venture between STAR India and DEN Networks, InCable Network has been avoiding the signing of the subscription agreement for channels offered on the Star DEN network. The network, however, has been availing the services and transmitting the signals to cable homes.

Star DEN has, therefore, announced that viewers with InCable's cable connection will face discontinuity in the supply of channels distributed by Star DEN, until the latter renews the subscription agreement.

As a result, signals comprising StarPlus, STAR Movies, STAR World, National Geographic Channel, NDTV 24x7, NDTV Profit, NDTV Good Times, NDTV India, MGM, and Fox History & Entertainment are likely to be disconnected, starting April 22, 2011.

In reaction to the development, Gurjeev Singh Kapoor, CEO of Star DEN says in an official communiqué, "We have been negotiating with the operator to sign the subscription agreement, but to no avail. We remain hopeful of reaching an agreement with InCable as soon as possible, so that the TV viewers' interests will not be sacrificed in the process."

It is pertinent to note here that earlier, InCable had faced a copyright raid in Surat when the network was found transmitting channel signals of STAR Network beyond its authorised area of operation.

The raid was undertaken by the enforcement agencies after STAR India officials filed a complaint.

As a reaction to the copyright raid, the STAR channels were switched off on March 22.
