Shashank Mehta, the founder of clean health brand The Whole Truth, has denied allegations from fitness influencer Akash Yadav, who accused the brand of misleading consumers about the amount of sugar in its products and how they are positioned, in a video posted on Instagram.
Responding to Yadav’s claim that 4.3 grams of added sugar per scoop is excessive and unsuitable for women, diabetics and sugar-conscious consumers, Mehta said the sugar comes from jaggery, which is clearly mentioned on the front of the pack. He also said the pack Yadav referred to is the brand’s Beginner Protein, which contains 15 grams of protein per scoop.
“For fitness folks, we have a separate range with 24 to 30 grams protein and 0 grams added sugar. Yet you chose to highlight only the beginner range, and that too with a 100 gram serving size, which is almost 3x of one scoop,” wrote the founder.
Addressing Yadav’s claim that The Whole Truth’s protein bar is misleadingly positioned as suitable for children and parents, Mehta denied the allegation. “The bar doesn’t say that anywhere. I don’t know what you’re reacting to.”
He also said that cocoa nibs and powders are both pure chocolate ingredients and that their declaration on the packaging complies with regulatory requirements. Yadav had questioned the brand’s hazelnut spread label in the video.
Disputing Mehta’s response, Yadav said the protein pack states it is for everyone and that the sugar level is high. He cited the brand’s website to support his claims.
“It is not right for you to say that I am making it up. In the meantime, please check all the claims you are making before attacking me and be honest with EVERYONE,” wrote Yadav.
