LGBI is one of the six busiest airports in the country in terms of passenger volume
Airports Authority of India (AAI) has floated a tender for retrieval, safeguarding and maintenance of 575 free baggage trolleys at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) in Guwahati for three years. While the minimum reserve price is Rs 96,000, the minimum reserved licence fee has been fixed at Rs 80,000 per month, compoundable by 10 per cent per annum.
LGBI is one of the six busiest airports in the country in terms of passenger volume. The airport handles nearly 8,000 passengers daily and in the peak season, the figure goes up to more than 10,000.
The baggage trolleys have three sides for ad display - the area inside the trolley basket, the front and the back of the trolley. While the media cost for these trolleys vary between Rs 3000-4000 in metros, in Tier II and Tier III cities, these can be rented for Rs 1,500 or Rs 2,000 on a monthly basis.
Parties with a minimum of two years experience in advertisement, display business or trolley management services at transportation centres such as airports, seaports, railways and bus terminals will be eligible for the contract. Also, hoteliers, airlines, industrial houses, courier agencies and shopping malls with running business of not less than two years shall also be eligible for the contract.
According to a senior media owner, such tenders tend to get good response from the industry. "Baggage trolleys at airports work as a reminder medium and clients look at taking these on long term basis to increase visibility. Also, it is the only multi branding option available at an airport where most of the inventory is premium," he says.
Jayesh Yagnik, deputy general manager, MOMS feels while telecom players initially explored this medium, now it is limited to advertisers from the government sector only. "Recall value of baggage trolleys is not that great. Maintenance is one of the biggest challenges faced as the trolleys are constantly banged against walls or abandoned in the parking area. These trolleys are certainly not an attractive option for clients from the private sector and not many are using it currently," he adds.
Tender documents indicating full details of the licence will be available on non-refundable payment of Rs 563 on any working day up to 1600 hrs during April 20-29 from the Office of Airport Director, AAI, LGBI Airport, Guwahati. The tender documents can also be downloaded directly from the website of AAI.
