Suzuki Fiero sales cross the 50,000 mark

TVS Suzuki has set a record of sorts by selling 50,000 units of the Fiero bike since its launch in April 2000

TVS Suzuki, two-wheeler major and manufacturer of Suzuki range of motorcycles, has sold 50,000 Fiero bikes since its launch in April 2000. Suzuki Fiero, the 150 -cc 4-stroke bike from the TVS group, was launched in April 2000 in Karnataka. The national launch was completed by December 2000 with monthly volumes growing at 7,000 units per month. With the launch of Fiero, TVS established its presence in 4-stroke motorcycle market.

TVS-Suzuki manufactures the entire range of two wheelers - mopeds, motorcycles, scooterettes and scooters and hogs a 24 per cent market share in the two-wheeler industry The company has 5 million customers nation-wide. According to the company sources, "The Fiero is the fastest bike in the premium motorcycle segment in India to have achieved the figure of 50,000 in just nine months."

Speaking on the bike's performance, R Chandramouli, vice-president, sales & marketing said, "The performance of the Fiero can be attributed to its superior technology. Its digital ignition and intelligent carburetor, that enhance performance, have helped the bike to establish its credentials as a strong contender in the 4-stoke segment. Today, the Fiero is the leader in the 125-cc-plus segment and this is the ideal bike for those seeking state-of-the-art technology in motorcycles."

Incidentally, Suzuki Fiero won the "Motorcycle of the Year" title from Overdrive and "Bike of the Year" title from Business Standard Motoring for its unbeatable combination of mileage, power and riding pleasure.

It remains to be seen how much time it takes to reach the 100,000-unit sales mark and break the record set by the Caliber from the Bajaj Auto stable.
