Previously, Thakur was non-fiction head and creative director, Sol Productions. At Essel, he will report to Akash Chawla, business head.

Essel Vision Productions has appointed Partha Thakur as its non-fiction programming head.

The non-fiction content vertical of the production house has been working on projects for Zee. The company is looking to position itself as a one-stop shop for all film, television, digital, events and IP-related services, which it will produce, co-produce, market and distribute.

Thakur will report to Akash Chawla, business head, Essel Vision. Chawla, former VP, marketing of ZEEL's national channels, joined Essel in August this year.

Thakur holds a Masters Degree in Communication Studies from Pune University. He has over 15 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry.

Through the course of his career, Thakur has not only worked as creative head on several TV programmes, but has also directed some of them. He has also been responsible for duties like production, budgeting and strategic planning. Channels he has worked closely with include Zee TV, Star Plus, Star World, Sony Entertainment Television, Colors, MTV, Sun TV, Vijay TV, NDTV, Pogo, Disney Network, UTV and Fox Traveler.

Prior to joining Essel, Thakur worked with companies like Wizcraft Television, Miditech Productions, Optimystix Entertainment, Searchlight Productions and MTV India. Shows he has worked on include names like 'Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega', 'Indian Idol', 'Fame Gurukul', 'IIFA Awards', 'GIMA Awards', 'Apsara Awards', 'Zee Rishtey Awards' and 'Dare to Dance'.

For the record, Essel Vision has made several mainstream film including 'D-Day', 'Gulaal', 'Natrang' and 'Kaaksparsh'. In the television space, shows the company has produced include 'Fear Files', 'Dance India Dance', 'India's Best Dramebaaz', 'Saregama', 'DID L'il Masters', 'DID Super Moms', on Hindi TV, and 'Eka Peksha Ek' and 'Fu Bai Fu', among others, on Marathi TV.
