Spotify’s cheeky outdoor ads get nostalgic...

Spotify is running a new outdoor campaign in London, conceptualised by agency Who Wot Why. The campaign is titled Listen Like You Used To. Created by Who Wot Why, the campaign features a series of creatives that target listeners who grew up from 1979 to 1999. Using wordplay on classic lyrics, artists and track names, the ads aim to remind passers-by that while life may change, classic songs remain the same.

The ads cover a variety of genres including the English reggae band UB40, American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins and British all-woman group - The Spice Girls.

One creative harks back to 1979, when The Clash released their apocalyptic and politically charged song - 'London Calling.' Fast forward 40 years where 'conference calling' is the sad reality.

This isn't the first time that Spotify has made musical references on the OOH medium to get their audience's attention. Closer home in India, when Spotify was first launched, they ran a campaign in association with Leo Burnett - it was called 'There's a playlist for that.'
