MUMBAI, October 3
The United Nations Department of Public Information award recipients were announced during the Inspiration Festival, sponsored by New York Festivals. Winners were chosen from among the public service advertisement finalists in the New York Festivals International Advertising Awards.
Every year the United Nations present these prestigious awards to those shortlisted public service advertisements which best exemplify the aims and ideals of the United Nations -- ideals to promote awareness of worldwide health, social, and humanitarian issues.
The International Advertising Awards celebrates the World’s Best Work™ in advertising in all media: TV, Cinema, Radio, Design, Print, and Outdoor Advertising.
Winning the prestigious Gold Plaque was Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett with their television advertising entry for Helvetas entitled, “Water.” This piece shows people in a small, African village and their daily usage of water, yet the actors are only simulating using water as they perform these daily chores. The voice of the announcer makes the appeal that everyone deserves to have a clean water supply.
The Silver Plaque was awarded to 8 Commercials of Australia for their human rights television campaign, “Skincare” for United Nations Racism. This commercial shows an attractive, young female applying what looks to be skin cream to her face. The more she applies, the more her face breaks out in a terrible rash, almost as if her skin were rotting. Her teeth also begin to decay. A soft, feminine voice explains the slogan: “Racism: the more you apply it, the uglier you become.” This ad was for the Week of Solidarity with the People's Struggle Against Racism & Racial Discrimination, March 21-28" sponsored by the United Nations.
The Bronze honors were bestowed upon Lowe AG for their work on the print advertisement for Greenpeace entitled, “Ocean Warriors,” which shows a school of exotic fish, at the bottom of a very deep, blue ocean, with a banner explaining that “Our Oceans Need More Protection.”
Finalists also recognized by the UNPDI included: Duval Guillaume (Belgium); Euro RSCG Beker (Mexico); Savaglio TBWA (Arentina); Walker Werbeagentur (Switzerland); Oricom (South Korea); DDB (Canada); and McCann-Erickson (Spain).
Presentation of the UNDPI Awards took place on Wednesday, September 27 during the “Wrap Party” of the three-day Inspiration Festival (if), sponsored by New York festivals.
The Inspiration Festival, that took place between September 25-27, during Advertising Week in New York City, featured 35 unique if speakers at an exclusive venue each day.
