Shiksha.com, India's leading education portal introduces Reputation Index system for Shiksha Cafe, which is one of the biggest Question and Answer platform for student community in India. Currently, the community has grown to almost 150, 000 answer seekers and around 1,476 contributors providing answers to these queries. Reputation index has been introduced to provide recognition to these advisors and to ensure quality answers to users. The system works on the principles of self-learning and community moderation to bring the high quality content on the top layer while suppressing the contributions of lower quality.
Commenting on the same Prakash Sangam, Business Head, Shiksha.com said "Search related to education information has seen exponential growth over the last few years. Shiksha.com has always tried to make information exchange easier and more user friendly. This is a democratic platform where the value proposition comes from the fact that users get a variety of answers for their query. Reputation index to promote quality answers is unique to Shiksha.com and is the first of its kind innovation in any Q&A platform. This represents a great stride in Shiksha.com's strategy to always provide the best services to their users."
Introduction of the Reputation Index promotes more high quality answers. The algorithm has the following principles built-in: Answers with more upvotes (thumb-ups) & 'Best Answer' selection fetch Reputation points, Answers with more downvotes (thumb-downs) are penalized Reputation points, Contributors with more followers are treated as influencers and get additional reputation points, A vote from a user who has written good answers in the past (higher reputation) carries more weight, A strict anti-spam policy discourages spammers and marketers to gain any kind of influence in the system & the system automatically minimizes the voting weight of people indulging in collusion and collaborative voting. Further, this plugs into the reward system for advisors wherein people who answer questions are awarded points and simultaneously promoted to different levels of seniority on the expert panel.
On an average, approximately 450 unique questions are asked on Shiksha café every day with an average of two answers per question. The average time to get a response to a new question is approximately 10-15 minutes.
