The Welfare for Stray Dogs (WSD), an animal welfare NGO has joined hands with Excel Home Videos (India’s leading Home Entertainment Company and licensee for Walt Disney) to create awareness about stray dogs through Eight Below, a heart warming canine movie , inspired by a true story. Says Cyrus Brocha TV Host and Ambassador for WSD, “Movies like these help develop an animal culture. Most urban parents discourage the natural instinct of children to interact with animals leading to disconnect and fear in their minds”.

Part of the Proceeds from the DVD is pledged for activities aimed at the welfare of stray dogs like sterilization, immunization against rabies, adoption programmes etc. Adds M.N Kapasi, Managing Director, Excel Home Videos,”The work carried out by WSD over the years has been commendable, and we are honored to be part of the effort”. Says Gary Lawyer, Musician and Dog lover, “Movies are always a great way of inculcating values, especially in children. This movie will go a long way in educating and sensitizing people towards the plight of these loyal beings.”

The Movie based on a true story, is about an adventure set in Antarctic. After an expedition with Dr. Davis McClaren (Bruce Greenwood), the sled dog trainer Jerry Shepherd (Paul Walker) has to leave the polar base due to the proximity of a heavy snow storm. He ties his dogs to be rescued after, but the mission is called-off and the dogs are left alone at their own fortune. For six months, Jerry tries to find a sponsor for a rescue mission while his beloved dogs fight to survive the most unforgiving winter on the planet. Driven by unwavering friendship and belief in one another, the dogs and Jerry (who will stop at nothing to rescue them)- make an incredible journey to reunite in this triumphant and inspiring movie.

The activity is also aimed at highlighting the assistance citizens can provide for the welfare of stray dogs. Says Abodh Aras, CEO, Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD) “We are also promoting our helpline number through the DVD to help injured or stray dogs in distress. Concerned citizens can call 23733433. The DVD will also carry a communication about WSD and its activities and also help raise funds for various activities”. Adds Cyrus Broacha, “We are also promoting the idea of adoption, not only by individuals, but also by societies and buildings, this can be a win-win as it provides unmatched security for the inmates and a home for the dog”
