The film and television producers guild of India announces producers’ guild awards 2008

The Film and Television Producers Guild of India today announced the Producers’ Guild Awards for excellence and achievement in theatrical motion pictures. The announcement was made in the presence of eminent members of the Guild like Yash Chopra, Ramesh Sippy, Manmohan Shetty, Ravi Chopra and Ronnie Screwvala. The Producers’ Guild Awards will be held on March 30, 2008 at a star studded evening at MMRDA Grounds in Mumbai.

The Award has been instituted by the Film and Television Producers Guild of India with an objective to establish a benchmark and a standard for honouring excellence and achievements in the industry. Each year the awards have been receiving a tremendous response with most of the prominent names in the industry participating and the colorful presence of artists and performers from all over the world adding to the glamour quotient of the event.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Ronnie Screwvala, President of the Guild said, “The Producers’ Guild Awards looks to honour achievers within the fraternity and it is an initiative from the fraternity itself. A total of 28 Apsara’s are being presented this year. Of which 16 Apsara’s are for the Popular Awards category, 7 Apsara’s for the Technical Awards category and 5 Apsara’s for the Special Awards category. Also to be received is The Film & Television Producers Guild of India’s Life Time Achievement Award, nominated and voted by the Guild's Special Committee, the Award is bestowed for outstanding achievement in fostering the finest ideals of the film & television profession. The recipient of this award is a well-established performer who has contributed to improving the image of the film & television profession and has a history of active involvement in humanitarian and public service endeavours.

To ensure utmost levels of credibility and transparency the Awards are audited by Pricewaterhouse Coopers, who also have been the auditors for the Oscars for the past 68 years. Nominations include all motion pictures exhibited or broadcast between 1st December 2006 & 30th November, 2007.

Once again the Legend Amitabh Bachchan will be seen competing with ShahRukh Khan, Abhishek, Akshay Khanna & Shahid Kapoor in the Best Actor Category. Ravishing Kareena Kapoor will vie for the coveted position in the Best Actress Category with Aishwarya Rai, Tabu, Shilpa Shetty & Rani Mukherjee.

The Best Film Category will witness Chak De India competing with Jab We Met, Guru, Life in a Metro and Cheeni Kum.
