Games2win breaks into list of top 50 global online gaming sites

While gaming is growing despite the economic slowdown, Games2win has broken into the list of top 50 global gaming sites.

According to a recently released reports of web researcher com-Score,Games2win.com ranked 46th globally by the number of total unique visitors, making it the only Indian gaming website to be ranked among the top 100 gaming sites. Estimates of Google Trends, a search analysis tool from Google, shows that Google search for Games2win and its games has tripled this month compared to January 08. The number of daily unique visitors to Games2win.com has increased from around 40,000 in January to almost 1.5 lakh in December.

The company has attracted users from almost all countries with a gaming audience without spending a penny on marketing activities according to the site's founder and CEO, Alok Kejriwal." We have attracted traffic virally because of the sticky content. We develop games in-house in India for a global audience. Our games will soon available in 25 languages in a fortnight, up from the 17 currently available. Once this goes live, the user will get the game in the language he has chosen for his internet browser," he said.

Interestingly the gaming company has also monetized the piracy (known as scraping) of its games onto other websites. Mr Kejriwal said, "On an average, every game from a genuine gaming site would be scraped onto at least 100 other pirate websites, within an hour of its going live and the gaming site loses the revenue. So we developed a product called Invizi Ads, which allows us to monitor and show advertisements into our games even if they are being played on any pirate website. So the reach for our advertiser and our advertising revenue increases with the piracy of our game."

Edward Hunter, director, Gaming Solutions, comScore said, "Games2Win is virally spreading the games they create to sites such as addictinggames. They also encourage game scraping, which allows them to penetrate even further into the marketplace. Marketing your site internationally is great, but content plays a much higher role in traffic than anything else. Games2Win is on a month to month rising traffic trend, they have an admirable model I am watching very closely. ."

Venture capitals Clearstone Venture, Silicon Valley Bank, Nexus India and ICICI India invested $5million in Games2win in March 07. The gaming company has 202 games on its website. It adds three games a week currently, and plans to add one game everyday from January. The company also operates gamecurry.com, a search engine only for online games, using the findings from these search trends to develop its own games.
