Hallmark Channel, the family general entertainment channel, has added yet another feather to its cap by enhancing its already varied bouquet of offerings.

The channel has launched a programming band, 'The Fairytaler', which is a compilation of wonderful fairy tales of the world-renowned Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. His fairy tales are known and loved by children and adults all over the world. The program premiered on March 5 at 18:30, airing several episodes, each episode -a new story, a new fairytale!

Andersen's fairy tales include The Emperor's New Clothes, The Little Mermaid, Nightingale, The Princess and the Pea, The Ugly duckling and many more are never outdated, forever amusing and always relevant.

Andersen frequently uses a colloquial style that disguises the sophisticated moral teachings of his tales. Many of Andersen's fairy tales depict characters who gain happiness in life through suffering and conflict. 'The Ugly Duckling' and 'The Little Mermaid' are Andersen's most intimate works.

"He now felt glad at having suffered sorrow and trouble, because it enabled him to enjoy so much better all the pleasure and happiness around him; for the great swans swam round the new-comer, and stroked his neck with their beaks, as a welcome." (from 'The Ugly Duckling')

"We are delighted with this new program line up on our Channel. As a channel, we value such edutainment programmes that contribute to a healthy TV environment in which kids can both learn and have fun while learning. Each of Hans Christian Andersen stories comes with a moral and leaves us with a thought. The debut of The Fairytaler also reaffirms the Channel's commitment to quality programming for the whole family", said Amitabh, General Manager, Hallmark Channel, India.

Watch The Fairytaler, to see how Andersen breaks new ground in both style and content, and employs the idioms and constructions of spoken language. Andersen's identification with the unfortunate and outcast makes his tales very compelling.
