New Delhi, February 20

The Director General of All India Radio, Mr Brijeshwar Singh, has been appointed the Vice President of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA). The elections to various posts of the CBA were held this evening at the end of the 26th General Conference that took place in New Delhi from 15th to17th February 2006. Mr. Abu Bakar Jijiwa, Director General, Voice of Nigeria has been elected the President of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association.

Mr. Brijeshwar Singh, an IAS officer of 1975 batch, Tamil Nadu cadre, has been working as the Director General of All India Radio since February 2004. Mr. Singh’s election as the Vice-President of one of the premier broadcasting associations in the world, underlines the important role being played by All India Radio in the field of public service broadcasting.

The Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, which came into being in 1945 with six members has now grown to become an association of more than one hundred broadcasting organizations spread over North America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. It aims to promote the concept of public service broadcasting through training, exchange of programmes and views.
