Pond’s, one of Hindustan Unilever’s oldest skincare brands, has undergone a global revamp. To begin with, Pond’s has relaunched three of its key products: Pond’s Age Miracle, Pond’s White Beauty and Pond’s Perfect Result. The rest of its products will follow suit. Priyanka Chopra has been roped in to endorse the brand in India. Incidentally, she was also signed up recently for HUL’s Sunsilk.

At the press meet announcing Pond’s revamped image, an elaborate theme was used. The rebirth of a ‘timeless’ brand was shown through a Grecian musical that celebrated the rebirth of love, romance and beauty. Actors Malaika Arora Khan and her husband, Arbaaz Khan, were the protagonists. Preceding the press conference, rumours were deliberately spread about the couple’s divorce and Arbaaz Khan’s remarriage to someone else. However, the two were spotted at the press conference enacting the Greek love story with Malaika as Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, and Arbaaz as Adonis, her lover. The act ended with the two ‘renewing’ their vows on stage by getting married to each other once again (which explains the remarriage rumours).

Since then, quite a few media reports have openly criticised the deception/illusion of the supposed ‘remarriage’ created in the name of publicity for the brand. HUL executives were not available for comment on this, when contacted by agencyfaqs!

In an official communiqué, HUL’s managing director, Nitin Paranjpe, remarks on the relaunch, “This is just the beginning for Pond’s as it globally embraces the role of being the face-care expert for women across ages.”

Brand ambassador Priyanka Chopra says she has used Pond’s since her childhood. “People say ‘Love makes the world go round’, and Pond’s is a helping hand to that. It’s all about romance and truly making one feel lovely.”

The Pond’s logo is not expected to change any time soon, as a result of the relaunch.

For the record, Pond’s has a presence in 58 countries.
