Brands congratulate Sundar Pichai for his new role

Sundar Pichai, who was the chief executive officer of Google, has been named chief executive officer of Google's parent company, Alphabet. The news broke out after the founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin stepped down from their respective positions.

Given the gravitas of this accomplishment, Indians rushed the social media after the news surfaced, to congratulate Pichai and express their pride. Many tweets poured in praising Sundar for this feat, with #SundarPichai becoming the most trending hashtag on Indian twitter.

Pichai, who has been Google’s chief executive officer for over four years will manage both Google and Alphabet, while Page and Brin will remain members of company’s board.
