Rajeev Chaba to take over as president at General Motors India

Chaba will take over from incumbent Aditya Vij on June 1

Rajeev Chaba, who is the COO of General Motors India, will be the new president and MD of the company next month. He will replace incumbent Aditya Vij, who moves to GM Europe as executive director, sales, marketing and aftersales for Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg and Switzerland.

Chaba, who began his innings with GM India in 1995 as national marketing manager, is a bachelor’s degree holder in engineering and an alumnus of IIM, Bangalore. At GM, he moved from heading the sales & marketing department to being the day-to-day in charge as COO in 2003.

He also served as director, sales & marketing at GM Japan, where he helped restructure the business, besides contributing to the increase in sales of Suzuki-produced Chevrolet Cruz.

Pointing to Chaba's diverse experience, Troy Clarke, GM group vice-president and president GM Asia Pacific, says, “Rajeev’s exceptional leadership skills will play a key role in building on the foundation set up by Aditya in an extremely important market such as India.”

Vij, on the other hand, will have the overall responsibility of the Scandinavian markets, and will be based in Stockholm, Sweden.

He has been with GM for 14 years, holding different positions across countries in Europe and Asia. As president and MD of GM India since 2000, he has been credited with the launch of Chevrolet, with the company growing under his leadership.

A qualified CA, he earned his master’s degree in business administration from IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland. © 2005 agencyfaqs!
