Key changes in HUL’s management committee

Nitin Paranjpe will be managing director and CEO, while Douglas Baillie will join the Unilever Executive

Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), one of India’s largest FMCG establishments, has announced key changes in its management committee. The appointments will be subject to the approval of the shareholders in April.

Douglas Baillie, who currently holds the position of managing director and chief executive officer at HUL, will join the Unilever Executive and take on the role of president, Western Europe. Nitin Paranjpe, who is currently executive director, home and personal care, HUL, will take over as MD and CEO of the company.

Key changes in HUL’s management committee
Paranjpe joined HUL as a management trainee in 1987. Since then, he has worked across various levels in both sales and marketing functions. He was also a member of Project Millennium, a key organisational initiative. During his stint at Unilever London in 2000-01, he worked closely with the Unilever Executive Committee. He returned to India as the head of innovation for the fabric wash and HHC division. In May 2004, he was appointed vice-president, laundry and home care. In March 2006, he was appointed executive director of the home and personal care business, and was inducted into the management committee. Paranjpe was appointed to HUL’s board of directors in May 2007.

HUL chairman Harish Manwani says, “The changes reflect our strong commitment towards leadership development and our tradition of leveraging experience and synergies of talent across markets. Baillie has made a significant contribution to the business in India and in driving the growth agenda. Paranjpe brings with him significant experience of managing business and functional strengths in sales and marketing. He will bring further impetus to the company’s growth agenda.”

HUL products address the consumer’s everyday needs of nutrition, hygiene and personal care, and are present across 20 categories in home and personal care products, and food and beverages.
