Grey wins a gold, a silver and a bronze; O&M takes home two silvers and a bronze
Grey Worldwide and Ogilvy & Mather are the two Indian agencies that have won metals at the recently held Singapore Outdoor Advertising Awards (SOAA).
Both Grey and O&M have won three metals each, Grey with one gold, one silver and one bronze, and O&M with two silvers and one bronze.
Grey’s gold came for its work for Childcare India. The work, titled ‘Beggar Boy’, won a gold in the Ambient/Guerrilla (Single Item or Event) category and a silver in the Ambient/Guerrilla (Campaign) category.
Raj Kurup, regional creative director, Grey Worldwide, says, “This creative also picked up awards at the Goafest and the Abbys.”
An outdoor campaign, ‘Beggar Boy’ had cut-outs of a young beggar placed on the glass panes of doors. Instead of the ‘Push’ sign that doors usually carry, the sign said ‘Push them out of begging and not just out of your way’.
Grey got its third metal, a bronze, for its work, ‘Mirror’, for the Cancer Patients’ Aid Association. As per this campaign, it hung a mirror in ‘paan’ shops, with a garland hanging in front of it. A lighter hung freely beside the mirror and when a person came to light a cigarette using the lighter, he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror, with a garland around his neck, signifying death.
O&M got its first silver for its work on Brooke Bond Taj Mahal Tea. The campaign was called ‘Taj Mahal Parachute’ and consisted of tea bags, attached to small parachutes, being distributed in parks early in the morning. The idea was to enable people who came for an early morning jog in the park to associate the idea with morning tea. The silver was won in the Ambient/Guerrilla (Single Item or Event) category for Ambient Media.
O&M’s second silver was won for Pidilite Industries’ Fevicol, for the work, ‘Now in Egypt’, in the Highway Poster/Large Billboard category. The campaign was for billboards and showed the legendary Sphinx with its nose fixed. The campaign was planned for Fevicol’s launch in Egypt.
Orange Rugby ‘Bandage’ for Hutchison Essar got O&M its bronze in the Highway Poster/Large Billboard category for innovative billboards. A crepe bandage, which is usually associated with rugby, was tied around the billboard.
