Advertising error... KFC or KFC without the ‘C’?

Why KFC would have done well to chicken out from showing chickens in its latest ad.

Mother’s new ad for KFC putting the chicken in the limelight might prove to be a dangerous road to go down. The new TVC introduces a ‘perfect’ chicken that looks into camera and flaunts her stuff provocatively as rap music blazes away in the background. The strapline, ‘The whole chicken, and nothing but the chicken’, rounds off the commercial emphatically.

KFC are “proud of our chicken and are not afraid to show it”. Mother, on its part, was being disruptive. However, between them they seem to have broken a golden rule: show meat coming out of the oven or platefuls of meat on dining tables, but never show the actual bird or animal for fear of putting off people, even the non-vegetarians. No one likes to be associated with taking lives.

That brings up KFC’s second problem. It has been in the news for all the wrong reasons with regard to raising its captive birds. This ad could open up that tin of worms all over again. The bottomline is that the ads can talk Kentucky, they can talk Fried, but it would probably have been best for KFC if they had left out the C entirely. Mother has recently replaced KFC’s agency of 15 years, Bartle Bogle Hegarty.
