It is the biggest sporting event in the US and brands pull out all the stops while advertising in the Super Bowl. Here are some of the best
Advertisment
The annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL) generates as much conversation for its advertising spots as it does for the games. This year too was no different.
The February 4th final of this year’s game witnessed a close fight with the Philadelphia Eagles edging out New England Patriots. This was good news for advertisers, who could count on eyeballs throughout the game, and particularly for Tide, which aired four brilliant commercials across four quarters and easily won the night with the best campaign.
Adweek’s top five spots for Super Bowl LII have spots from Grey New York, Droga5, Goodby Silverstein & Partners, Lucky Generals, and the winning agency Saatchi & Saatchi New York for the Tide ads.
What made the Tide’s advertising stand out was that it springs from a clever idea that feels fresh and unexpected. It knowingly comments on Super Bowl advertising itself, which viewers always love. It ropes in other P&G brands and even tweaks a non-P&G brand (Budweiser). It calls back classic ads like Mr. Clean and Old Spice (which, trivia alert, never actually ran on the Super Bowl).
