Meanwhile, McD's launches McSeries

Put aside any doubts about whether online video is indeed the next big thing. McDonald's has recently launched its own original content-led webseries called 'What's Cooking?'.

If the first episode 'Cracking the Secret of the Egg McMuffin' is anything to go by, it appears as though this series will comprise original, behind-the-scenes, secret recipe-type, kitchen and supply chain footage, created to show viewers what goes into putting those guilt-laden burgers on their plates.

Given the growing popularity of online video and the webseries format, as well as the general rise in interest around food and food-related content (have you seen the number of people who classify themselves as 'foodies' today?), this seems like a good idea.

It also looks like fertile digital ground for brand associations and integrations.

Starbucks already has its own webseries called 'Upstanders'. From the looks of it, McDonald's will release far lighter content than Starbucks did.
