Last week, one of alcohol’s most iconic campaigns came out of the mists of time as Bud Light hit the UK market.
For those who remember, the Budweiser frogs last came up on screens 22 years ago in a Super Bowl ad. Of the three frogs on show in 1995, Bud, Weis and Er, only one survived. Bud is back but with two new friends.
As the US’ bestselling brew debuted in UK a month ago, a 30-second ad followed last week. Created by Mcgarrybowen London, the new spot is identical in style to the original created by D’Arcy Masius, Benton and Bowles back in 1994.
The three frogs have remained some of the most memorable campaigns created in the 20th century winning honours at the Clios and Cannes Lions. Bud Light’s launch in UK is one of AB InBev’s (the company) biggest campaigns to date. Nostalgia played a big part in the decision to use the three frogs.
According to the company, it still received comments from people who remember the Frogs and ask if Bud was bringing them back. With a recall value that stretched more than 20 years, Budweiser felt that it was time to bring the Frogs into play.
